Project 6

For this project I am going to design a poster series, passes, merch etc. for the Coachella music and arts festival.

Design For Good

For this assignment I decided to design a poster for the Protect Our Winters organization, also known as POW.

Protect Our Winters was started in 2007 by pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones who witnessed first-hand the impact of climate change on our mountains. After having been turned away from areas that had once been ride-able and seeing resorts closed due to lack of snow, Jeremy saw a gap between the winter sports community and the action being taken by us all to address the problem. It is a non-profit organization that is all about focusing on ways to help stop climate change for the economy, for those who love the sport etc. etc.

I decided to focus completely on Utah in my POW poster and advertise solely to those living here and gear it specifically towards the amount of money and that we benefit from snow related activities and that we need to get involved for our pride, ourselves, and our state.

Packaging

For the packaging assignment I decided to make a product that could compete with Smiths Optics snowboarding goggles. I wanted to design for a goggle that had excellent fog resistance with it's amazing goggle technology, and had excellent full vision will laying close to the face.

Design Mark

Design Mentor

Mark Weaver is my design mentor. I love that he is a very successful freelance graphic designer and illustrator. His pieces are always so appealing to me, his textures and use of color are beautiful. I really love the way he combines old imagery and old ideas with new ones. His pieces are often very simple, but they are are brilliantly simple! He has some of the most incredible illustration that I have personally seen, I am just all about Mark Weaver and would love life if I could some day design half as awesome as he does.

Design Philosophy

(Philosophy Rough)
Design is a way to communicate a message as effectively as possible, generally in a visually pleasing way. It’s allows one to combine the power of both type and imagery either through the means of simplicity or an abundance of information. The bottom line to me is that it is an effective way to solve a problem, communicate a message, while pleasing the brain and entertaining the eyes. It is a beautiful way to relay information, or express an idea. Without design everything would be the same and boring, design is the spice to life. My philosophy is to take these basic ideas and to not take design too seriously. When it gets too serious that's when it gets stale and stops being the spice to life, it becomes bland. I want to keep design interesting, fun, and hopefully a little bit different.
